Nuclear power plants, healthcare, industry and research institutions produce small amounts of radioactive waste that must be stored and disposed of safely. With the help of our experts, designing waste repository facilities in the bedrock is safe and cost-effective. There are already two nuclear power waste disposal facilities built within Finland’s bedrock. Operational waste repositories for Teollisuuden Voima Oy in Olkiluoto and for Fortum Power and Heat Oy in Loviisa were opened in the 1990s. There are several other storage locations around the world that are excavated into the bedrock.
